Fiction( based on a true story)
Grandmother
I was transferred to another city on promotion. There was no one to look after my ninety-year-old grandmother; after my parents’ demise. I was against keeping her in the old age home. So I left her in our old house with a female attendant as a temporary arrangement till I get some accommodation there.
Newspaper headline ‘…Rape Victim 93…...’ was enough to give me nightmares.
I came back and ran up the stairs calling Grandma, she was there sitting in the easy chair looking very vulnerable. I hugged her and made arrangements to take her immediately with me, forever.
I’m not surprised your narrator rushed back. They’ll both be a lot happier now.
(I hate doing this, but I think it should be parents’ – plural possessive – as opposed to parent’s, which is singular.

So sad that things like this really do happen. To prey on the old and vulnerable (or the young and vulnerable) is horrible.
Here, “90 years old grandmother”, it would be better to say “my ninety-year-old grandmother”, which also saves you a word. 🙂

Thanks a lot Janet for your suggestion, I’ve edited it. Women, younger or older are not safe even boys are also not safe.

I like it that the narrator took her 90 year old grandmother back to live with the grandchild. Good idea! Great story! Nan 🙂

That is a real fear in today’s world-no one is safe anymore-anywhere!Liked that the narrator had such a soft heart-tough call though for both as she is working and her grandma is old but am sure they will both manage:-) A sweet take on the prompt Indira:-)
