Alma Mater
You’ve been asked to speak at your high school alma mater — about the path of life. (Whoa.) Draft the speech.
Draft of my speech at Alma mater
Respected mother superior, mother Thomasina, sister Hilda………and my dear students.
I got admission to this school when I was 5 years old. There are so many beautiful memories rushing back to my mind. The six years of my life I spent here was the best years of my life. I passed my higher secondary exams from this school some 52 years ago. I never thought I would get a chance to speak before you. Well, here I am addressing you all and I’m very happy to come to this school once again.
I loved this school, my teachers, and my classmates very much. My teachers were very sincere about teaching; they took special care of each child to make him understand their relative subjects. So much that I still remember everything and was able to teach my children. Thanks to My teachers (names of some of them)…
I’m here to talk about the path of life.
I will make it short, as I know how students hate long speeches.
What my teachers taught and what my life taught me there is education is very necessary. Hard work and attention are required to get it. Some other qualities are also required which I’m sure your teachers have taught you.
I’ll add just a few things for reaching your goal in life and what qualities you need.
Little ego for self-esteem
Patience when you go off the beam
Stubbornness is when you think you are just
Politeness is always a must
Hunger for success in life
Grace whenever there is strife
Anger when someone is abused
Presence of mind when you are confused
Righteousness when there is a fight
Calmness when the situation is tight
Little selfishness to make yourself happy
Peace of mind so you are not snappy
Conscience to stay away from vices
Strength when difficulty arises
A little negativity you need sometimes
Being positive is always right every time.
I thank you all for listening to me so patiently and quietly.
very beautiful Indira! I wish I had a school in which I have studied for more than four years- that was the longest tenure but unfortunately cant go to Tundla to get a pic, will love to though!

Thanks Sharmishtha . I really love my school though speech is very horrifying idea for me. Where is Tundla dear? You can google it and save picture.

Hi Indira, great post, I have no idea of what I would talk about if I have such invitation, I have mixed emotions about my school time. You did a good job with the prompt.

Thanks dear for your very encouraging comment. I can never speak in public but writing it was different. 🙂

Very very nice speech, I just imagine I did that–and all of the audience were listening attentively. I were very confident in front of them….since…yes…Speaking in front of public is not very easy–especially to make it interesting, loving….
