The Daily Post- Never Again

Have you ever gone to a new place or tried a new experience and thought to yourself, “I’m never doing that again!” Tell us about it.

Thanks for the idea, emilyeggplant!

When we were residing in Jabalpur one day we suddenly decided to go to Amarkantak ‘ King of Pilgrimage’ by car. It was just five hours journey from our house. Journey was just amazing. Beautiful roads and scenery around was just terrific. Our one night stay at the place was also good.

While coming back, I saw a sign board for Reserve Forest Bandhvgarh. Being a fan of zoo, and animals I requested my husband to go there. Road was not looking good so he was a bit apprehensive so I advised him to ask an auto driver about the condition of the road. On passenger intervened and said that after 2/3 miles road is quite good and don’t be afraid go and enjoy. We believed him and proceeded.  To our horror, what we saw was not all a road but boulder stones of all sizes scattered around. We were in a midway neither could go forward nor backward.

We got down and started removing boulders then one local man came and started helping us. We proceeded further. The more we were approaching near the reserve forest the more deteriorated road we got.  But once we have made up our mind we were hell bent to reach that place.

Once we reached there, everything went smoothly. We visited the forest though we could not get the view of white tiger as was suggested on the board and confirmed by the locals but we enjoyed our stay there. We came back by a different root and it was superb.

It is not that we won’t go there again but never ever going to believe the strangers about the condition of the roads. Never ever going to do that again.

Amarkantak (NLK Amarakaṇṭaka) is a pilgrim town and a Nagar Panchayat in Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh, India. Also called Tirthraj or “king of pilgrimages”, the Amarkantak region is a unique natural heritage area and is the meeting point of the Vindhya and the Satpura Ranges, with the Maikal Hills being the fulcrum. This is where the Narmada River, the Son River and Johila River emerge. Popular 15th-century indian mystic and poet Kabir is said to have meditated on Kabir Chabutra, also called the platform of Kabir, situated in the town of Amarkantak.[1] –

  1. most probably they have never travelled by car! 😦 I remember similar experiences about making the mistake of asking a villager how far a certain place was, he said “hui hotha!” that will translate to just around the bend? That bend came after walking for miles! To him that distance meant nothing I guess because they always walked, most of them, bicycles were rare there forget about other modes of transport so… I guess I will have to blame myself.

    • They were going same road by an auto Rikshaw. You are right. Perhaps this was not a trouble for them at all. They had no other means to travel so they were habituated to these bumpy rides. Thanks for sharing and visiting my post. 🙂
