The Daily Post- Newspaper

Posted on

Newspapers have become a habit with us. Our mornings look insipid without them. We enjoy our tea with daily news. Internet cannot take the place of paper. Touch of paper in hand is soothing, comforting and make me nostalgic about the time when we had only newspapers and some magazines to know what’s happening around .

How much we criticize news reporters for exaggerated news, repetitive news etc.etc. but we can’t do without newspaper. I personally like the supplementary more. They are the real source of entertainment with cartoon strips, book reviews, film reviews and much more.

Time to time newspaper come up with funny headlines. Here is a Link-http://www.oddee.com/item_96156.aspx

One of the objects of a newspaper is to understand popular feeling and to give expression to it; another is to arouse among the people certain desirable sentiments; and the third is fearlessly to expose popular defects.

Newspapers widen the sphere of our sympathies. They make their readers enter into the joys and sorrows of thousands of whom they would else know nothing, and for whom they would otherwise care nothing.

  1. True enough, though there was a time when newspapers were meant to do a lot more than entertain, or even simply inform. Indian Express for example still does investigative journalism rather than just print whatever Reuters or PTI send their way. And back in the 40s and 50s newspapers were where you looked to settle arguments on English grammar and punctuation and so on. Now, of course we have that ad rag called TOI.🙂
Does that seem enough for an old man’;s rant?😀
    (P.S. I hope you didn’t mind!)
