Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 40 – All About 40
Welcome to Week 40!
Certain numbers arouse curiosity. I have always wondered about the special significance of the number 40, across different cultures and geographies.
- Why 40 days of mourning in Islam?
- Why 40 days of fasting and prayer in Lent?
- Why 40 winks of sleep?
- Why 40 minutes of walking?
- Why 40 days of rest after childbirth in India?
- Why the fortieth birthday as a celebration of midlife?
- Why the depression at turning 40?
Maybe, it takes that much time for a chance to get entrenched in the system and become effective.
Write anything – poem, prose, rant, memory, anecdote, reflection, wild thoughts – which includes the number 40.
Look forward to my weekly peep into your brilliant minds…
FORTY: You are Naughty
- Why the depression at turning 40?
Number 40 might have significance in different cultures and geographies, mythologies and whatever, As the above list from Reena’s prompt says,
But,
When it comes to aging, 40 is a naughty number.
You are neither young anymore nor old enough, even your mind doesn’t accept whatever your mirror says or shows a few strands of white, your heart is still young.
You try to mix with 20+, they say there is so much generation gap, you don’t belong to our generation. They start calling you uncle.
You try to mix with older people, they say you are not experienced enough like us. There is so much more you have to learn to be like us.
WTH,
So what did I do all these years?
Left with only chanting ‘ Hanuman Chalisa”?
( In Hindu mythology, there are always 40 verses of prayers to any God, there are several)
I’m 40 years young man who looked quite young, well, in my opinion, so when I got befriended with a 20-year-old girl via Facebook, who was attracted by my funny and witty updates and comments, I was thrilled.
She liked my wit and humor and I liked her charming jovial face, we started chatting daily and one day we decided to go out for a dinner.
At dinner everything went fine, she seemed completely comfortable in my company, enjoyed our conversation on different topics and laughed a lot at my jokes, we even enjoyed the same food also.
While leaving she agreed for another date sometime next week. and said
‘ Thanks a lot for a wonderful time and the lovely dinner… UNCLE! ‘

The embarrassment is higher when the husband is called ‘Uncle’, but the wife is not called ‘Aunty’ …. thanks to our personal care. 🙂

Can this be the root and reason for “fortification? 😉
