Weekend Writing Prompt #80 – Castle
Old castles intrigued me. If I can travel back in the past, I will visit each and every castle in the world, not only to enjoy their grandeur and architecture but to explore what secrets lay behind those walls.
How many stories of love, kindness, brutality, cruelty, corruption, politics, power game, vendetta, murder, and goodness they have witnessed.
How dirty games their masters have played or how much their own people, relatives, and best friends have betrayed to gain power, wealth, name and fame.
Do they feel ashamed of the behavior of their masters?
How I wish they could talk.
(100 words)
There is certainly an air of mystery about castles and fortresses – as if souls are trapped inside trying to tell you their stories.

So true. They look creepy in spite of their beauty and grandeur.

I too am a fan of ancient architecture and would love to be privy to the stories their walls could tell.. very nice take.

Thanks. Nowadays all this happens in politics, nothing changes only names and the method of killing changs. Mentality is same.

Many tales hide within these walls. On a quiet afternoon, you might hear the breeze sigh. But it is no breeze. Listen. What do you hear?

I was clearing out some old e-mails I’d overlooked and among them found this challenge. Obviously long overdue. 🙂 but I sat down today and produced this:
COZY CASTLE
Out in the black a tiny spark
Blooms into flaming flesh
That flickers, a fiery dancer
Amidst a slowly forming picture
Imagined, improved, approved as
Yes … that castle only dreamt of
Time and effort bring it into view
With towers, turrets and bartizans
Crenellations atop sturdy walls
A moat and drawbridge, portcullis
A statement of power, of dominion
A protection against any assault
From the envious or less fortunate
Fully equipped with arrow slits
Endless ramparts, battlements
Murder holes and oubliettes
Till in time as will in time all
The tide turns and with a sigh
The sandcastle returns to sand

I know this is a bit picky but I’d be very grateful is you could reinsert the title and the text. (Just my OCD. 🙂 )

Sorry I didn’t understand. Reinsert the title and the text , what shall I do. Shall I give the link of the post?

You can see that in the original version in my comment/response to the challenge there is a gap between the title and the text of the poem while in the version at https://amaltaas.wordpress.com/2019/09/21/cozy-castle-by-ben-naga that gap has disappeared and I would like it to be reinstated if possible. Sorry but I missed out a couple of words in my last reply. No wonder it was hard to understand. My fault. 😳
Also I have noticed that I miscounted somehow, ending up with 101 words rather than 100. I have now removed the ‘A’ immediately before the word ‘moat’ in my personal ‘definitive’ copy No need to change it on your two sites unless you wish. I thought I should own up though in case anyone counts carefully and discovers my shameful error. It doesn’t change the meaning, just the word count. 🙂

it’s very old 100 word challenge and few words here and there doesn’t matter,so the hosts Rochelle Wisoff says. I’ll check and edit it.

That is very sweet of you. Thank you.

It’s funny. When I edit and create a gap it stays but when I update it vanishes. I don’t
understand.
