Image of Goddess Durga after one week of immersion

Immersion

I’m sitting on a rock on the sea beach watching the immersion of the Idols of Maa Durga, Just four days ago we were worshiping him with full fun and frolics, with flowers and sweets. Now it is time for him to go back to his heavenly abode, hence the immersion in the sea. Waves reverently envelop her slowly and take him down under the sea. I feel sad.

After one week I’m sitting at the same place. I observed remnants of those beautiful idols washed ashore by the waves. Sea never keeps anything. It returns whatever is offered to it.

Why we are arrogant, stubborn, and hyper

Why we fight for class, color, cast,e or creed

Why we have become so intolerant

Why we are not compassionate, compatible, and friendly

There are so many whys…

Why for petty things we pull out the dagger

When the end is the same for the king or beggar

VJ’S WEEKLY CHALLENGE #124: EMBARRASSING MOMENTS

Posted on

It’s an old, at least 53 years old faux pass but I still feel ashamed of it, an incorrect word I  used in my haste to show my knowledge.

It so happened 53 years ago my newlywed elder sister came to visit my mother and me with his Christian husband on Christmas eve afternoon. After chatting for some time they got up to go but my mother insisted they go after dinner.

My bro-in-law declined to say he has to go with friends at night for…

Before he could finish, to show how much I know of their culture as I had studies at missionary school, I chirped in

‘Mother let them go they have to go for PAROLE’

Full marks to my BIL, real gentleman he is, very quietly without even smiling, he corrected ‘ carol, Indu, carol.’

With great difficulty, my sister suppressed her smile. I still feel embarrassed when I remember this.

Afterward, we all had a good laugh on that.

Welcome to winding up routines for 2020! We have got three more weeks to go. Time does not really wind up, but gives us these calendar breaks to reflect back and assess, analyse and plan ahead.

What impacted our lives in 2020? A teeny weeny virus, and this will remain in collective memory for a long, long time. I guess a whole new genre of ‘lockdown literature’ has developed in 2020.

Other than that, what was happening in your respective environments? Did you feel strengthened, hemmed in, manipulated or threatened in any way?

PROMPT #165

Our theme for this week is HANDS.

Look closely at the pictures above. Choose one or more, and think what are they doing together. Will they remain entwined or go their own way? Was their act or intent good or evil? Could they do whatever they planned to do together, or fell apart?

I think…

PROMPT #164

We hadn’t done a picture prompt for quite sometime, so here it is

English translation by Reena Saxsena.

Spiced bytes served by news chefs
Newspapers on fire, readers bereft

Lost in their ego battles
Intellectual apathy rattles

Those who seek justice are locked up
Leaders, law-keepers unite, nation rocked up

Supporters of victims beg for mercy
Lose their net worth, see the fallacy

All those on whom expectations hinged
Sold out for lucre, hopes of masses singed

Do you think your tears will vanquish fires
Conflagrations will dry them up, and not tire

Death by Excess

Posted on

Reena Saxena

I skip the news updates on Corona horrors and vaccine developments, except for the economic impact.

I am not afraid of death.

Yet, I think I’ve seen death closely than ever before – lurking in eyes, expressions, behaviour patterns, ostracisation of people considered unsafe ….making me fear it will continue as an obsessive compulsive disorder in the post Covid era.

I’m tempted to ask them, “Do you think death is scarier than the life we live today?”

gratitude, compassionon exit paths-giving way tofearsuspicion-are we movingforwardor backwards?

A person with claustrophobia who refused to wear a mask, and ridiculed people staying indoors falls prey to the dreaded disease. Doctors surmise that the cause of death was cardiac arrest, not Covid, and it could be due to his resistance to the bipap mask, which was needed to restore oxygen levels. Makes me wonder how many…

PROMPT #161- I invite you to meditate on the light this week, and share your take on the subject.

absence of light

is the root cause of all our fears

let the light reach

the dark corners

of  mind, and heart

and enlighten the soul
to accept,

it’s okay to have
some flaws

some flowers

give their fragrance at night best

let me accept

light and darkness both

and

unshackle me

from fears

PROMPT #160

I give you a situation this week.

You go down in a lift that doesn’t stop for hours. When it finally opens, what do you see?

HELLUCINATIONS?

We,

the law-abiding
justice-seekers, call us fools or whatever…
Crammed in a lift going down. It may take hours we are informed. We don’t mind if it takes months or years, so long the door opens to the justice we are seeking.

Though at present things are looking grim as always we can’t afford to lose hope we, the die-hard optimists are prepared for the worst but hope for the best
Finally the lift stops.

The door opens,

‘Welcome to the fool’s paradise’

we are cheered by

the skeletons of the previous justice seekers.

Am I hallucinating?

delating something there

PROMPT #158- Singularity

Super human intelligence is here

you will be outdated

they try to scare me

I am already scared

I rely too much on

my smartphone for information

than my own brain

which has punished me

by refusing to keep memories as before

But

what really concerns me is

will my equation with my loved ones will change

will my mind stop reading what they want to convey

Will I run for my phone to

read what their every gesture means

isn’t that the height of

horrible singularity
