there still is hope

WISE TRADITIONS
Radha is going to get married today but as per the village tradition; she has to marry a mango tree first.
She ties a red sacred thread to the tree trunk, embraces it, puts her cheek on it, and then proceeded to marry her real husband.
To fight the menace of dowry system, villagers of Dharhara has made it a tradition to plant ten mango trees with the birth of each girl child so by the time they grow up, revenue from its fruits are enough for their dowry and wedding expenses and the mango tree acts as the real guardian of the girls.
A traditional ceremony in Dharhara, India, where a girl gets “married” to a mango tree before tying the knot for real with her husband. Image Credit: Supplied picture
