Scars

Ruby has to cross the lonely footbridge daily on her way to school. She goes and returns with friends, and still mother never forgets to remind her strictly to never pass the bridge alone. Though their colony is very safe, security guards are posted everywhere.

Ruby wonders why mother is so scared. She asks mother.

Mother looks in her eyes. She is so young and innocent; she will not understand it now.

Once mother made a mistake of crossing a footbridge all alone when she was young.

Mother still shivers.

Time heals all wounds but some scars never fade away.

UNGRACIOUS?

‘Why  have you  lit lamps when there is no power cut today dear?’

‘You know granny has no electricity in her home but she used to make choicest of delicacies. I’m experimenting from one of her recipes so I’m creating the same atmosphere honey.’

‘So nice of you but make it only for you, my friend has invited me for dinner.’

And he was off to some unknown friend.

He always does that.

Whenever I experiment something new, his friends pop up from nowhere to invite him for lunch or dinner.

How Ungracious!

Friday Fictioneers- SHOPPING MALL?

SHOPPING MALL?

This is the biggest shopping mall but with a difference.

Don’t get mislead by the closed shutters.

Behind them are stocks of various types of weapons.

They are to be sold to terrorists and developing countries to fight their neighboring countries over border disputes.

One thing is sure, however greedy these suppliers may be but no one can blame them for being biased.

They supply weapons without discrimination.

This is how they become richer and powerful and developing countries become poorer by purchasing weapons to gain power over their neighboring countries without thinking about their own important issues of development.

Retreat

My spiritual guru’s voice was ringing in my head as I started climbing the stairs.

‘Each step will take you to the eternal light. Don’t look back. Surrender and you will attain enlightenment and salvation’

I thought it easy as I had nothing to lose except this sickly body which has given me nothing but miseries.

I was about to take the plunge when fear of surrendering to unknown grasped me.

Back there was at least a world of known hell of addictive miseries. Whereas here was surrendering to unknown about which I was not sure.

I retreated to my hell.

After four years of courtship just when I was expecting a marriage proposal his denial at the pretext of his parent’s disapproval hit me hard.

I wanted to cry my heart out but there is no place in this crowded city where one can sit peacefully without being noticed and cry.

Then it rained, first slowly then heavily as if to wash my agony away, to wash my tears away.

But to my surprise tears didn’t come.

I was enjoying the rain instead.

Life doesn’t end with someone’s rejection.

There is so much to enjoy.

I phoned him.

“Go to hell.”

Mother’s Diary

How time flies by

Children are grown up and gone to their journey

I’m determined not to complain

There is so much to do

Wait for their yearly visit

Or visit past

Beautiful memories of

Four soft hands clutching my hands

Sparkle in their eyes

Vying for my attention

Their laughter filling my whole universe

Their schooling, their grooming, was all I cared for

Then with age their list of friends started increasing

They started spending more time with friends than with me

At first I craved for more of their time

Then, accepted

It’s all part of life

Sooner you accept

Happier you are

Chicken Heart

I can tell a murderer when I see one and have never been proved wrong in my long police job.

This woman with such a pious and innocent face, sitting near a brutally murdered body, confused me. She just didn’t fit the scene.

She can’t be a murderer.

Her friends and relatives confirmed my views.

She couldn’t kill a mosquito; she was in fact, a chicken heart. They vouched.    I slapped her to bring her out of the trance. For a second her expression changed. There was wrath and hatred in her eyes. She hissed, ‘He dared to molest my daughter.’

Writing 101, Day 10- Coffee Date with friends

Posted on

Though I prefer tea sometimes coffee is okay with friends, I relish it in their company.

Now if we were having coffee now, I would share this incident with you,

Once I was relishing lemon tea on my balcony all alone.

Watching surrounding hills

A road full of traffic all the times.

Everyone seems in a hurry to go somewhere.

Children playing in the park, shouting more, as they make more rules than they play

Making or breaking friends

Suddenly I noticed an ant

Trying to climb the wall with

The load doubles its weight

It was trying and falling, trying and falling

I couldn’t bear its plight

With compassion

I took it on a piece of paper and kept it

Where I assumed it wanted to go.

The ant looked at me indignantly and said

‘Who asked you to help me; I prefer to do my work myself.’

‘You thankless creature’, I retorted,

‘Didn’t I help you?’

She said,

‘Reaching my goal myself would have given me satisfaction

Trying, again and again, would make me tough and strong

I like to pass my time working hard

Now, what would I do the whole day,

Sit and brood like you?’

I know you all will laugh ‘ she must be dozing, dreaming about ants.’ Perhaps yes but your laugh is my reward.
