Sunny, whose both feet had been amputated when he was four years old has long back accepted his disability and tried to be always happy lest grandma becomes sad, suddenly requested his grandma’ I want shoes! ‘
Grandma, who was taking him for a ride in his wheelchair, looked sadly at him.
‘ Don’t look so sad dear, I want them for my best friend, he cannot buy shoes and cannot play without them.’
Grandma was touched. She lovingly showered blessings on him.
He laughed, ‘ One day, with your blessings I am going to climb Mount Everest.’

Compassion

Rioters burned the tailor’s shop. It was opposite our house.

When the curfew was lifted, he came and sat down in despair on seeing the ramshackle shop.

Mother called him and offered him our old singer machine for the time he could buy his own.

He was thankful and offered to stitch our clothes for free.

The mother strongly rejected the idea.

‘You need money to buy a new machine. So start your business first and save money.’

Mother was a conservative Hindu and the tailor was a Muslim.

Mother sowed a seed of compassion, for everyone, in me that day.

OPTIMISM

Life can be very boring, sitting the whole day in a corner, watching workers doing their job, even for a stuffed goat.

Do you believe in animism? I do. I have a soul like plants, winds, and mountains. I can’t speak but I can understand everything.

When one day one worker scolded her pretty daughter for not studying properly and failing in the same class again and again that if she fails one more time he will marry her off to me.

Since then life has become a bit interesting. I am waiting for her to fail.

Optimism makes life bearable.

The first version of FF

HOPE

I was assigned the most important job in the office to keep watch on fellow workers.

I knew they despised me and whispered to each other, ‘ see that back biter, sitting there a whole day like a stuffed goat, doing nothing and bleating all the time.’

I might have resigned long back but one day I overheard the boss threatening that pretty worker, ‘ look you silly goat! You make too many mistakes. One more mistake and I will make you marry that goat and resign.’

Since then I’m waiting for her to make a mistake. Hope keeps a man alive.

( Which one is better friends. Feedback please.)

Sometimes telling truth is beneficial.

‘I came to steal the gold candle stand.  I was waiting for the candle to burn out, it took so much time that I dozed off.’

The thief explained to the owner of the house who startled him with a kick in the shin.

‘You fool! Didn’t you notice the electric wire connected to it? It’s a showpiece, that melted wax is artificial.’

The owner started laughing; tears rolling down his cheeks.

I have not laughed since my wife’s death. Now run away before I call the police.’

The embarrassed thief ran out like a bullet.

GRATITUDE

The grandson was a bit poor in studies but good with automobiles. So when he got the job as a truck driver, his grandmother was very happy.

The first assignment he got was to drop hay bales at a farm.

He was supposed to pass by their house so grandma was waiting for him with his lunch for a long time.

He arrived beaming but a look at her tired face made him sad.

‘I’m going to gift you a watch with my first payment so you don’t have to wait for so long,’ he exclaimed.

She was all tears.

Tree Climbing Poppy

Rochelle- To start off the year with a bit of whimsy, I’m posting my daughter-in-law’s picture of their tree-climbing dog. She assures me that this is untouched and not photo-shopped. Yep, that’s my granddaughter watching.

Punishment

Sunny was searching for his 24 hours companion buddy who was missing for a long time. he found it in the courtyard on the tree.

‘ What are you doing on the tree, buddy?’

‘ I’m waiting for mom to come and bring me down.’

‘ Come down by yourself.’

‘ I’m too small to come down on my own.’

‘How come you climbed by yourself?’

‘ I didn’t, mom put me here as the punishment.’

‘ That’s no way to punish a small dog, What did you do?’

‘ I  only licked the icing off her  New Year cake.’

Dolphins

A group of tourists was enjoying the dolphins playing among themselves. When their guide told them that  Scientists think If humans ever hope to talk to animals, dolphins might represent our best bet. Some dolphins can understand up to 60 words and can make up to 2,000 sentences. They communicate between themselves exactly like us human beings. And who knows—maybe someday you’ll get a phone call from a dolphin.

One woman asked surprisingly ‘ What this fish will tell me on the phone ?’

Suddenly one dolphin came close to the poolside looked directly at the woman and retorted -‘ I’ll say, we are not fishes, you fool!’.
