Metric System

Inch – #JusJoJan Jot #18

Being from the old school I’ll always prefer using inches in every measurement, be it for clothes or shoes or measuring anything. Measuring in the metric system is comfortable, but I still feel uneasy.

It was introduced to us when I was in class 6. Maths itself is troublesome and learning the metric system was not easy then but children couldn’t stick to their choice, there was no option but to understand it.

Still, I think that in a sentence like:

‘He/she is every inch a professional or something.’ It will seem absurd to say,

‘he/ she is every centimeter …

Does it sound nice?

Similarly, when you say,

‘move the yardstick’, will it sound nice to say ‘ move the meter stick’ or the meter stick of measuring success or safety or anything?

The Friday Reminder for #SoCS & #JusJoJan 2019 Daily Prompt – Jan. 12th

Your prompt for #JusJoJan and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “art.” Talk about something that’s hanging on your wall. Add a picture, if you’d like. If you have no art on your walls, talk about something in a museum.

Watercolor painting by Rakesh Trivedi

Art

This is the artwork of my 12 years younger brother, Rakesh Trivedi.

It is special because he painted it just for me as a farewell gift when we were transferred to another city.

He completed it in just a few hours that too at night after helping us in packing.

One specialty is in the eyes of this tribal girl is that you look at whichever angle it seems to look at you, with a smile in which touches her eyes.

I had seen a similar painting in a painting exhibition and loved it.

When I told my brother about it, he managed to get a 2 inches paper print of it and painted it in the bigger size.

He also inspired me to draw sketches and presented me with books on sketching and shading.

I tried my hand at sketching for some time but couldn’t manage anything original. Just copied whatever inspired me with making a larger graph and copied it.

Anyway, learning is great fun.
