Being from the old school I’ll always prefer using inch in every measurement, be it for clothes or shoes or measuring anything. It’s comfortable, measuring in the metric system, I still feel uneasy.
It was introduced to us when I was in class 6. Maths itself is troublesome and learning metric system was not easy then but children can’t stick to their choice, there was no option but to learn it.
Still, I think that in a sentence like:
‘He/she is every inch a professional or something.’ It will seem absurd saying,
‘he/ she is every centimeter …
Does it sound nice?
Similarly, when you say,
‘move the yardstick’, will it sound nice to say ‘ move the meter stick’ or the meter stick of measuring success or safety or anything?
