Just Pay Me Enough
I remember so vividly the day we met
It was my interview for the job but I felt the connect
The team was so good and the promises of growth, even better
I was on the moon when I got the appointment letter
I was full of zeal and energy
To show that passion and ambition, mine and yours were, in complete synergy
I worked hard to contribute the best I could
And you appreciated it all as a leader should
Together you had said we will grow
I agreed to your every word without beating a brow
The days were good, weeks better
I worked hard to keep up with your directives in words and letter
Time flew and together we grew
Your appreciation would make us happy, at times one and at times a few
There were opportunities from your peers and foes
But we were your team and they always would get our no’s
Time changed with the slump and slowdown
But we stayed with you agreeing not to bow down
There were no raises and there were no increments
But we never looked elsewhere and stuck by you through these predicaments
Then came the pandemic that made us all shiver
But my trust in you did not even once quiver
I thought we would see the times through together
Grow out of it with our bonds yet stronger
Then came the news of redundancies and layoff
But it didn’t bother me as I thought I have the bonds of togetherness to show off
Struck me like a blow that my name was on the list
I took it in my stride as I thought you would have tried everything against the tryst
How much money you want when you asked
I was taken aback was the bond of togetherness all masked
I am not greedy don’t want a fortune
But wish you could hold my hand till the times were more opportune
Can I put a value on the gone by time?
And forget my zeal, enthusiasm, hard work of years just over a chime?
I wish you well know your monies will come as once again you reach your prime
So just pay me enough to buy back that opportune time
