Daily Prompt- The Mirror Crack’d

Daily Prompt- The Mirror Crack’d

You wake up one morning to a world without mirrors. How does your life — from your everyday routines to your perception of yourself — change?

(Thanks for suggesting this thought-provoking prompt, Chocolate Eyes!)

Mirror is my best friend.

It has taught me many things.

The first time I saw my face in the mirror, I did not believe it was me.

Didn’t mother say that I was pretty?

But mirror did not show a pretty face.

Was mother lying? I asked her.

She said I was most pretty for her.

Oh! That! Every mother thinks that her child is prettiest of all.

Then I started trying to make myself beautiful with different hairstyles, make up and look at the mirror hoping now it will accept me as pretty.

Mirror never lies but it taught that first I have to accept myself then it will accept me.

Slowly it became my friend.

It reflected an honest, loving caring face which may not be beautiful but acceptable to all my near and dear ones.

It taught me that the best quality a face possesses when one can look in the mirror without feeling any guilt and without  envy, anger and hatred toward others.

My daily routine ,after waking up in the morning,is thanking God then go to mirror to notice how dishevelled I’m looking and to tidy up myself. It’s not important though but  has become a habit which is very difficult to get rid off.

If I wake up one morning to find the world without mirror, after cribbing for sometime I will definitely find some replacement.

But I will miss my best friend very much.

I never thought we would miss so much without mirrors until I read joatmons post.

Five Sentence Fiction – Fearless

Lillie McFerrin Writes

FEARLESS

They were a pack of six daredevils, studying in the same college, sharing a rented house in our locality.

Apart from participating in dangerous games, they were ever ready to help others, be it walking in the fire, jump in the water or climb the mountain to save someone, they were the pride in our locality.

Our locality leaders thought to award them to encourage other youths.

Members of the felicitation committee went to their house for some details only to found them huddled together in a corner shivering with fright.

Their object of fright was a big fat cockroach looking at them as if asking ‘ why are you afraid of a little insect-like me?’

(Based on a true incident, I witnessed on my train journey to Goa)

Daily Prompt- Full Disclosure

Daily Prompt- Full Disclosure– A mad scientist friend offers you a chip that would allow you to know what the people you’re talking to are thinking. The catch: you can’t turn it off. Do you accept the chip?

When my mad scientist friend came to me with the offer, I thought it would be interesting to what other people, you are talking to, especially a cat, dog or other animals are thinking but only sometimes. Otherwise, it will interrupt my talking as I’ll be busy hearing what they are thinking.

Had I been a detective, it would have helped me know to read the criminal’s mind and solve the mystery.

My mind itself is chattering all the time and to burden, hearing others thoughts will be too much, I will become insane.

Moreover, it will be like trespassing. I do not like others to know what I’m thinking when they are talking.

Usually, people don’t listen to each other. Their mind is preoccupied with their thoughts. They just wait for the chance when another person will stop talking and they will start, some people don’t even wait for that. They have a habit of interrupting.

So just for fun and only for some time, I would have accepted it but the catch, that I can’t turn it off decided it.

No thanks dear friend, I am better off without it.

                         MALICE

He looked around the room with satisfaction, perfect with soft music, dim lights and a red heart-shaped seat between I and U, to show her there were no hard feelings in spite of the separation they agreed mutually though he couldn’t suppress a mischievous laugh.

She arrived on time, looked around, saw the arrangements and responded to his invitation for the last dance.

Then slowly he steered her towards the seat and was just about to make her sit,  she quickly switched their position and forced him on the seat.

Taken by surprise he could not respond and went down the hole with the seat.

She stepped back looking at the gap and smiled scornfully as if all those years living with him had not taught her enough about him.

My friend Archita  asked “how can we get hoho back to earth now. ” then she gave me a suggestion “Load-shedding after 2 mins ..so She cannot eat the half grilled apple ; she throws it away . Hoho is half burned and half-powered now..He has to stay somewhere in the middle of earth and space and has to scare birds , helicopter , flight passengers to achieve full power once again . :D . Pepe and Popo are friendless now .. and together they start making a big plan now.. 2nd story starts :) :)’

So Hi !  Archita here is HOHO back on your demand and as per your suggestions. Thanks.

HOHO Returns

Hoho, the ghost, was inside the apple, she kept it in the oven and switched it on.

Nothing happened. She remembered it was the power cut time. Cursing the electric dept. she took out the apple to roast it in the gas oven.

Knowing her intentions, Hoho fled like a hurricane, having Pepe and Popo on his tail.

They stopped when they were exhausted. They found themselves in a forest.  Cool, comforting full of trees.

Hoho said ” I am done with this scaring business. I am not going there again. “

Pepe said, ” But we all will be expelled from our community.”

Hoho -” We will form another community, there are others who do not like this terrifying other and making life hard for people. they will join us.”

They all agreed to help people from now onwards.

That is how the angle ghosts and devil ghosts community was formed.

You may have noticed, when you are in distress, without any hope, in some difficult situation, Suddenly, someone out of nowhere comes and helps you. This is Ho’s community. You have to have faith in them and they will help you.

As for the devils, beware of them, sometimes they may come in the disguise of angels, but if you are careful, you can recognize them.

ForThePromptless – S. 2, Ep. 1 – The Alter Ego

Alter Ego/ personality disorder

I am Indira’s alter ego speaking, knowing fully well that she will never write this post herself. She was all against it thinking who wants to know about her, she not a famous personality etc.

I told her that even if nobody reads it, at least she will know about me and now is the time to acknowledge me.

She is full of inferiority complex, little coward afraid of fights, darkness, ghosts and everything. Whenever she was lonely, depressed and thought death is the final solution of her sickness and problems.Only I know what is she under the cool as cucumber mask.   It was me, who gives her strength, courage and hope to come out of darkness, face her fears and fight with them.

She is  shy, afraid of going out , speaking in public, always worrying for her near and dear ones, her friends and relatives. She thinks she is supposed to be perfect all the time and this gives her a lot of stress. I taught her that being not perfect is all right.

She does not participates in any thing for the fear of loosing. I taught her that you sometime win , sometimes  you do not, but the joy of participating is bigger than everything.

Her happiness lies  on others happiness. She feels guilty enjoying anything alone. I taught her that to be happy, enjoying things in life,  is not a sin. She is shy of  Expressing her  views fearing she may hurt others. I taught her that even if you don’t agree with others is all right, she must stand for whatever she thinks is right.

I always have to be vigilant to keep her on the right track. Actually I always have to do overtime with her , even if I take a wink  she will go inside her shell like a turtle.

Ghosts Can’t Scare Ghosts

The wife wanted to scare her husband and was waiting for him,  well prepared.

As he entered his bedroom, he saw his wife, with a glass full of blood, her face smeared with blood, laughing weirdly.
”  She wants to scare me”, he is amused.

” You can’t scare me with all this tomato sauce or whatever it is”, he said loudly.

” This is not tomato sauce, this is fresh blood, and if you are not scared watch this.” She hissed and took out a knife, cut her palm, and said: ” See, no blood, ghosts don’t bleed.”

He laughed ” I know all these magic tricks,  Now you see”, and took the knife from her hand.

Holding his hair with one hand, he sliced his neck with a clean sweep and said

” See, no blood”. She fainted.

Prompts for the Promptless – Ep. 3 – Schadenfreude

Schadenfreude is pleasure derived from the misfortune of others. An English expression with a similar meaning is Roman holiday, a metaphor from the poem Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage by George Gordon, Lord Byron, where a gladiator in Ancient Rome expects to be “butchered to make a Roman holiday” while the audience would take pleasure from watching his suffering

( opposite word- mudita, “sympathetic joy” or “happiness in another’s good fortune,” is cited as an example of the opposite of schadenfreude.)

Whenever I watch DISCOVERY CHANNEL or National Geography Channel and come across films on lion, tiger or other carnivorous animal hunting deer, antelopes or other lovely animals. Then enjoying while watching these films seems to me as if I’m a Schadenfreude. Or, when we pluck flowers to decorate our homes aren’t we getting pleasure from their pain.

There are people who get pleasure from, pigeon fight, cockfight, bullfight and to me getting pleasure from boxing and wrestling is also indulging in Schadenfreude act. there are several examples of this. Some people get pleasure in being cruel to others, by terrorizing others, by killing, rape or other heinous crimes.

In communal riots, I have watched people killing, beating and burning alive people of other community and enjoying. It was so devilish act.

Sometimes senior students in the name of ragging do inhumane behavior with junior students and enjoy their activities.

Some people enjoy wealth earned by selling spurious milk, medicine, food items etc. They enjoy while others suffer from their actions.

In every country, we can find some example of Schadenfreude act.

Weekly Writing Challenge: A Splash of Color

Weekly Writing Challenge

Nature has bestowed us with so many colors , with right proportion and right amalgam. I’ll vote for yellow as my favorite color. It gives several hues when mixed with other colors. Every color has its own beauty, effect and apathetic value. Every color has different effects on different person. Some like red roses but not red car or  red dress. Same goes for every color. Colors effect mood and behavior also.

There is so much yellow scattered everywhere. Right from the yellow sunshine, yellow in flowers, food, animals. You will find yellow hues in various shades in almost everything. Someone said that ” if you want to stand out in a party, wear yellow “.

Yellow is warm and friendly.

Here are some photographs depicting yellow in various shades.
