Regret

Regret

‘No one came to visit me?’ he tried to keep straight face. As usual nurse’s answer was negative.

He was bedridden and in good hands for he has all the money to afford great care but he felt all the care he got was mechanical.

He admitted that he was responsible for loneliness as he was one of those people who believe that money can buy love, friends, care, security, and loyalty. He believed that everything and everyone has a price tag. You pay the right amount and you will get whatever you want.  He was arrogant, stubborn and never cared for anyone.  He was always suspicious of everyone.

He always wore a fierce countenance so no one could come near enough to take advantage of him and in the process he became lonely.  Everyone left him except for his servants who worked for money.  Even they left him when they could not bear his extreme cynical behavior.

Now lying in a posh nursing home, all alone, with no visitors to cheer him, he regretted, why he didn’t realize that money cannot buy true unconditional love and friendship.

The Daily Post- Playful

I was not at all in a playful mood that afternoon. After hard work , all I wanted a good nap but he was in a very playful mood as always. He tried various methods to cajole me to play with him but when could not succeed he tried his trump card knowing well that now I will get up and chase him. The brute took one of my slipper and ran outside in the garden. I knew he will chew it off as he had done with my several slippers. I got up and ran after him.

There in the garden waiting for me my six months old puppy with a gleam in his eyes. I can vouch that he was smiling at me not at all afraid of my anger. He was looking so cute that no one can get angry with him. I took my slipper away and played with him for a while. Then caressing him I explained that I’m really tired and will play with him afterwards.

He understood me perfectly or so I think because after that he came and lie down beside me without making a noise letting me  I sleep peacefully. He was such a darling. I miss him very much.

In Search Of…

The bullet had gone straight through his head, spilling the contents outside.

His brain was looking like fat scattered from the biggest can.

What surprised him was his body was lying there dead but he was watching it.

Was his soul watching the incident?

Is there really something called soul, he wondered.

Nauseating though it was, his soul was mesmerized, watching intently from a distance.

His soul witnessed mischievous thoughts, buried deep in his mind, suppressed forcefully by him all his life, coming out.

Now they were free.

Taking bizarre shapes they flew away, in the search of a new prey.

The Cheater

I woke up with a start. Something was wrong.

He was gone.

No goodbye, no farewell speech. He took his flight and was gone to his journey to unknown destination, after sixty years of solid partnership.

How could he go just like that?

Forgetting all that love, caring, understanding, not taking each other for granted our comfort in communication or in silence, our oath to leave this world together.

‘Don’t leave me’, I cried. ‘Take me with you’, I begged.

The cheater!

Left me all alone,to dwell in the memories of past, to wait for my turn.

Nostalgia

Trains always remind me of my very affectionate 6 years old brother, (suffering from Down’s syndrome), how he loved to play train. He himself would become an engine, tie me and brother with a rope and try to pull us. The moment he whistled we would go in a different direction making it difficult for him.

He will argue ‘bogies should go with the engine.’

‘And engine should go with the driver and driver should go with the passengers’ we will chide.

The end was always a mock fight with we huddled kicking each other until mother’s intervention.

Only memories remain.

FOLLY

The moss ridden place, complete with a wishing fountain attracted her. Human like moss structures were watching her. She looked in the water and said’ I wish I could live here forever.’

Suddenly the place came alive by the sound ‘ Welcome to moss land dear, now you have become one of us.’ Moss structures came near surrounding her.

She panicked ‘ Who are you?’

‘We are idiots like you who make all kind of weird wishes.’

The moss started growing on her feet. Screaming with horror she tried to scratch it away but it started growing on her rapidly.

Five Sentence Fiction – Abandon

SOURCE

She watched her body lying on the floor like an abandoned house, her organs, heart, kidney, liver, all flying out one by one. Last to leave was her soul, looking despairingly at her.

‘Why are you all leaving me like this?’ She whined.

‘You have never respected and cared for this body, you took it for granted, and you forgot that it is an abode of God, you abused and misused it, you became a slave to your mind, you never listened to your conscience, your overindulgence in food and laziness had made us live inside it impossible.’

She woke up with a start; perspiring profusely; thank God; it was a dream, effect of all that junk food she ate last night, perhaps.

LESSON

‘I cannot go up mother; it’s hard to climb up.’ I whined.

‘Yes you can, first drop all those things weighing you down.’ Mother cajoled.

‘ Pride, prejudices, envy, anger, hatred, any negative emotion you have drop at each step Then you will notice how easy it is to reach the top   but remember it’s hard to go up and stay there but easy to come down.’

‘How do you know?

‘Because I was there once.’

“Why not come with me?

‘I am retired. Now I will stay here and help people go up.’
