DAILY PROMPT -Learning Style

Posted on

DAILY PROMPT Learning Style– What’s your learning style? Do you prefer learning in a group and in an interactive setting? Or one-on-one? Do you retain information best through lectures, or visuals, or simply by reading books?

Open eyes, open ears, and unprejudiced receptive mind is all I need when it comes to learning.

Every creature, every child, every person has something to teach you if you don’t have an ” I know everything’ attitude.

All styles according to time and availability suit me only they have to be interesting, humorous, witty and useful.

Style  does not matter

Teacher may be young or old

Teachings should be great

Daily Prompt- Fearless Fantasies

Daily Prompt –

How would your life be different if you were incapable of feeling fear? Would your life be better or worse than it is now? (Thanks, Nique Lektra, for inspiring this prompt!)

Fearless Fantasies

If I’m incapable of feeling fear, life would be very weird.  I may enter a house on fire to save someone, catch a live cobra, jump off a high story building, and play dangerous games.

I’ll not feel fear of death, loneliness, sickness, poverty, hunger, old age, powerlessness, committing crime, sin, everything which normal beings are afraid of.  Seems nice, no? No fear of darkness, cyclone, any disaster.

Wouldn’t it be an abnormal life because fear is a mechanism brain is empowered for survival?

Fear is that part of subconscious that makes you careful, reasonable and logical. It safeguards you from many disasters or committing crime or getting hurt.

Is being incapable of feeling fear same as fearlessness?

In my opinion feeling fear, then trying to overcome it and be brave is better than being incapable of  feeling fear.

Daily prompt- Exhale

daily prompt- Exhale

Tell us about a time when everything seemed to be going wrong — and then, suddenly, you knew it would be alright.

Many times in my life I have come across a situation when I almost gave up. Either health-wise or mentally, I was literally on the breaking point. I thought life is not worth living. The list is a long one and each one is important.

Now looking back I find that what is important is that every time in a tight situation suddenly there was a calmness pouring over me forcing me to take a deep breath and I knew now it would be alright, nothing serious will happen. I was in total control over the situation.

Still if I can breathe slow and deep things become alright perhaps my mind becomes working or whatever. It has worked till now.

I’ll recommend this therapy to everyone. Inhale slowly and deeply, exhale very slowly until you get control over your emotions. Try it. It will not harm you.

If I ruled the world

If I Ruled the World– You’ve been given the superpower to change one law of nature. How do you use it?

I’ll change the nature of law about death

Let death come with all its novelty

to carry on nature’s law

but

Let old age keep its

innocence, fearlessness, and cheer

like a child

it will make death less fearful and

make its impact mild.

daily Prompt- Pour Sugar On Me

What is your favorite sweet thing to eat? Bread pudding? Chocolate chip oatmeal cookies? A smooth and creamy piece of cheesecake? Tell us all about the anticipation and delight of eating your favorite dessert. Not into sweets? Tell us all about your weakness for that certain salty snack.

I did not like sweets in childhood except my mother’s special Gujhiyas.( Gujhiyas – Nisha Madhulika)    Inline image 1
My favorite snack; also my weakness was Mangal Bhai’s Aloochop/ Aloobonda. Potato, onion, salt, chilly, coriander leaves filling inside gram flour batter and deep fried in oil. Seems nothing special, no?
Its speciality was magic of mangalbhai’s hand and his magic spices.
He never shared it with anyone. It was his trade secret.
He used to make it in the evening. First he prepared potato filling. He fried boiled meshed potato with onion and his special ingredients. Whole locality would fill the air with mouth-watering aroma and made small balls, flatten them and kept aside. Then he prepared gram flour batter, there again he mixed some special ingredient. When he dipped potato ball in batter and deep-fried them on medium fire in hot oil, they doubled in size and were spongy.  Almost everyone in locality would get in line to buy them.
I have tasted potato chops in many cities but no one can beat our Mangal bhai’s potato chops.

Writing 101, Day 17- Mine your own material.

When I had just joined Word Press, I wanted to do many things at a time. Writing short poems in Hindi and English, photography, short stories etc. I stumbled upon Haiku, Haynaku and Haibun  and tried my hand on that also. But I had no courage to publish them . This assignment has given me a nice chance mine my old material.

Seasons come and go
According to their cycle
Relish with fervor

Seasons come and go

According to their cycle

Our mood swings  with them

Haynaku

Time
never wasted
teaches you something

Something
to learn
from your failures

Failures
to gain
Success next time

 Haibun

“Not only the thirsty seek the water,
the water as well seeks the thirsty.” Rumi

I’m walking on the water, on the sea waves
they engulf me, embrace me, caress me
they are cooling, soothing, taking away all the worries from my mind.
I need the sea.
Its vastness, calmness, serenity empowers me.
 Does it need me too?
 How I’m to know?
They say,
the sea never takes anything from anyone,
 it returns everything.
Is it unconditional love from its side.
Please, make me feel wanted, take me.

bonded forever
arguments unresolved
are we soul mates

Writing 101,Day15: Take a Que- “Without music, life would be a mistake.”~Friedrich Nietzsche

Posted on

I totally believe in what

Friedrich Nietzsche says-  ” “Without music, life would be a mistake.”

I can sum it up in following words~

Music is life, music is therapy,
Music can make every one happy,
Music can drive  woes away,
Music can drive illness away,
Music is life, music is therapy,
Music can make every one happy,
Music can drive  woes away,
Music can drive illness away,
sing,  sing, sing all the way
Sing in the day sing in the night
sing in the darkness sing in the light
sing when you are sad sing when you are happy
sing when your mood is snappy
singing just not drives ills away
singing drives the sorrows away
sing when alone, sing when together
sing when it is good or bad weather
sing in fright sing in delight,
sing songs together and never ever fight
sing,  sing , sing all the day
sing,  sing, sing all the way
Sing in the day sing in the night
sing in the darkness sing in the light
sing when you are sad sing when you are happy
sing when your mood is snappy
singing just not drives ills away
singing drives the sorrows away
sing when alone, sing when together
sing when it is good or bad weather
sing in fright sing in delight,
sing songs together and never ever fight

If you don’t believe me,
and  need some proof,
just ask my buddies,
dear meow and woof.

I equally believe in

“A room without books is like a body without a soul.”

— Marcus Tullius Cicero

but will write about it in another post, some other time.

Writing 101- Day 6&7- A space to write

Posted on

“Ideally we’d all enjoy Virginia Woolf’s proverbial room of one’s own, with a door to close to ensure uninterrupted writing time. However, for many of us, this just isn’t an option. But a lack of writing space should never keep you from writing. With a little determination and some creativity, you’ll always find some way to work.”~ Ginny Wiehardt

A Space to Write

In small apartments you can’t afford a luxury of your own space for writing, peace or calm environment.

You have to share your computer, computer time and space with whoever you are living with.

After sometime you adjust to even this.

I mostly do my work mentally. Thinking, rethinking, and editing everything goes nonstop in mind between cooking, cleaning or whatever house hold jobs you are doing.

Mind anyway never keeps quiet so why not use it for this purpose. It’s for the final draft I use computer.

In my two bedroom apartment, one bedroom is my husband’s writing space and in another I have set up a table for my laptop. This table sometimes is used for ironing clothes also.

Only problem is uninterrupted time. For this I had to select night time when everyone is asleep and I can write without interference.

I personally believe that if one is full of ideas, have full grasp on language and passion for writing then space, time and environment never poses any problem.

Any place and time is perfect for writing only essential thing is a commitment to writing.

Writing 101, Day 2- Write a list/Things I have learned

Posted on

Things I have learned

It’s been a long journey, with many ups and downs, every morning brought a new challenge, every night brought this exhausted body to bed but sleep eluded me.

My mind tries to allure me to all negative thoughts. Trying to search the scapegoat to put blame on it for my sickness and failures and to take the credit for whatever I have achieved. I did not succumb to its game. I started introspection and came up with a list of the things I have learned so far from life. From life means from everyone, every creature of this world. If we keep open mind we will find that every creature has some lesson to teach you.

The first and the most important lesson was,

Never abuse your body. It will never forgive you. You will have to bear the consequences if you don’t follow the rules of nature.

2- Anger, hatred and revenge only harm you so tread on this path cautiously.

3- Love, respect and compassion, the more you give the more you get.

4- Give lots of ‘benefits of doubt’ to others. They may not have any intention to hurt you. (It worked in my case.)

5- ‘Everything in moderation’ is a Mantra helped me most in every aspect of life.

6- You have all the right to like or dislike someone but never let hatred seep in to your heart. Don’t be too judgmental. Be lenient with others feelings.

7- Learn to hear, hear and hear. Be patient with others. Give others a chance to explain their views.

8- Plant trees wherever possible.

9- Always put duties  before rights.

10- Count your blessings, be active and try learn new things.

11- You can never run away from you fears and negative thought. Face them and accept them. Then only you can resolve them. This is hard but not impossible.

12- Learn to take responsibility of your decisions, right or wrong. You are in this condition because of the choices you have made; no one else is responsible for that.

13- Appreciate and encourage others, everyone loves it.

14- Whatever you do it with whole heart so you don’t have to repent later.

15- Our most beloved friend and the most dangerous foe is our mind only unless you know how to use it. What games it plays with us and sometimes comes in a disguise so that we are not able to recognize it that it’s a friend or a foe.

!6- Breathing and other exercises really helped me to overcome my fears, sickness and negativity, and made me more compatible, compassionate and understanding person.

There are many more lessons I have learned but will leave them for the next task. One thing I would like to make clear that this is not just for the sake of writing, I have really benefited from them.
