The prompt is to write something in a similar spirit – it could tell the story of a year or day or hour or minute – something that brought about a change in the life of a protagonist, family, community, nation or the world.
Life was such fun up to the age of 11.
There were music, dance, studies, games, picnics and all sorts of rides.
Some smooth some bumpy but having parents, siblings, and friends to share it with you is fun nonetheless.
Learning new things every day with friends was such fun which I attended every day till I was 11.
Life was like a nice dream.
Then one fine morning everything changed.
Suddenly I became a grown-up.
In my community girls were not allowed to play outside, laugh loudly or dance and sing after they reached puberty.
An order was passed to take all the childhood fun away from my life. I was suppose to behave in a certain way like, walk like this and talk like this and dress like this all that behaving like a girl.
There were so many dos and don’ts for girls only. Nothing ever changed for the boys. I had entered the realm of youth and childhood was taken away forever.
It made me feel as if a demon has taken control of my life, restricting all my activities.
It’s not that I didn’t enjoy my life after. Thankfully my parents were liberal, siblings caring and loving. We went to school, then college, movies were allowed with family members. There were lots of books to read, there were indoor games but it was different, not like childhood’s carefree, unadulterated, unrestricted fun.
The carnival called childhood was taken away from my life.
#Haikai Challenge #113 (11/16/19): fallen leaves (ochiba) #haiku #senryu #haibun #tanka #haiga #renga
Fun it was to walk
On crunchy fallen dry leaves
Did they whisper, ouch!
The theme for this week is- ONE MINUTE
Word Prompt- Raindrops
Thanks, Sammi for the prompts.
Prose Challenge – Write a story on any theme, with an upper limit of 250 words, set in the rain.
Poetry Challenge – Write an acrostic poem, where the first letter of each line spells “Raindrops” as it is read from top to bottom.
I was watching raindrops falling on the tree leaves and sliding down on the floor playing sliding game as we used to do in our childhood.
We siblings used to drench in the rains requesting mother to make hot pakoras and tea.
She did, after scolding for dirtying the house with mud but the fun digested everything.
Though old had taken such fun away, but we had our share of fun.
So calming down and enjoying the bicker of rain against the glass window is still so much fun.
The first shower of monsoon made me nostalgic.
I went out to get some fun and get drenched as I did in the childhood.
My neighbors, hearing me sneezing hard and shivering poured advises, like what I should do and what should I take.
Someone brought black pepper Rasam, the best cure for the cold, while the other one ginger tea. They did not rest until they made me change my wet clothes and wrapped me in the blanket.
They started telling each other all sorts of stories about how a simple cold can cause pneumonia or some other dangerous disease if not treated properly and one even recited how her distant relative died after suffering from a simple looking cough and cold.
Between all this hullabaloo one thing became clear that everyone is a doctor of some sort and my neighbors loved and cared for me their old neighbor and am not a lonely and abandoned person in this world.
When there is unrest or apprehension
When there is, in life a lot of tension
Take a break and retrospect.
When you overworked and very tired
When you are stuck in an old routine
Take a break and get a good rest.
When there are dissatisfaction and no fun in life
You think life is taking you for a ride
Take a break and meditate.
( My advice ” Take a Break ” was taken, very seriously and literally by my son.)
