Limerick Challenge Week 6: Pride hosted by mind and life matters( Rashmi)

I take pride in my sense of humor

It is like an ingrained tumor

It goes on increasing

Never stops breathing

Come whatever may, turmoil or tremor

Five Sentence Fiction – Fearless

Lillie McFerrin Writes

FEARLESS

They were a pack of six daredevils, studying in the same college, sharing a rented house in our locality.

Apart from participating in dangerous games, they were ever ready to help others, be it walking in the fire, jump in the water or climb the mountain to save someone, they were the pride in our locality.

Our locality leaders thought to award them to encourage other youths.

Members of the felicitation committee went to their house for some details only to found them huddled together in a corner shivering with fright.

Their object of fright was a big fat cockroach looking at them as if asking ‘ why are you afraid of a little insect-like me?’

And this was a chink in their armor.

(Based on a true incident, I witnessed on my train journey to Goa)

Sometimes telling truth is beneficial.

‘I came to steal the gold candle stand.  I was waiting for the candle to burn out, it took so much time that I dozed off.’

The thief explained to the owner of the house who startled him with a kick in the shin.

‘You fool! Didn’t you notice the electric wire connected to it? It’s a showpiece, that melted wax is artificial.’

The owner started laughing; tears rolling down his cheeks.

I have not laughed since my wife’s death. Now run away before I call the police.’

The embarrassed thief ran out like a bullet.

                       Cookies Crumble

She was never afraid of ghosts. In fact, all the ghosts, demons, witches, gnomes, angels, and fairies were her friends. They lived under her bed, around her, in fact in every corner of her house. She played with them, made fun of them, yet they were never ever angry with her, in fact, they joined her in the fun.

Today was a tiresome day. Housekeeper didn’t come. There was a power cut for half of the day. There was a water problem in her area. To brighten her mood, she tried to make cookies. Despite doing every step correctly, cookies crumbled. She was very disappointed. Feeling very tired, she went to bed. Suddenly she remembered, she has asked her mother to write a ghost story for her. She started laughing. Her mother could not write a story, moreover, she never believed in ghosts. So it was out of her imagination, but to tease her she has asked her to write for her. Still laughing she switched off the light and rolled on the bed.

Suddenly there was light in the room, she saw her mother was sitting on the easy chair. She was looking intently at her. She inquired, when did you come? You didn’t tell me you were coming? Mother just smiled, and then started laughing shrilly. It was a very eerie laugh. Her mother’s face became distorted and she started crumbling just like cookies.

She woke up with a start. The room was dark. Her alarm clock was ringing frantically. She switched off the clock, switched on the light. Her clothes were wet with her sweat. She laughed at her dream, and then she noticed, there was a small heap of cookies on the chair.

Leap Of Faith

We were poles apart

Destined to come together

In the name of  love and friendship

We took leap of Faith

Sometimes our paths were dark

Sometimes they were bright

Our compassion and compatibility

Made us bond together

And God set everything right

Compatibility at its best

Compatibility at its best

Why it is that
foolish people are compared with donkey
and not with
cow, zebra, giraffe or monkey
methinks,
the answer is simple
as you may say
both don’t know
when to keep mum and when to bray.
( No offense intended for donkeys, they are lovely and hard-working. They are just stubborn, single-minded and will go to extreme lengths to get what they want, especially when someone indicates “No, you can’t have this. “)

FRIENDS

Posted on

What are friends there for?
If not for, care,
Concern and adulation.
For being comfortable,
In silence and in communication.
For supporting each other,
In every difficult situation.
For helping each other,
Without any humiliation.
For accepting each other,
Without any discrimination.
