#Weekly Tanka Prompt #Poetry Challenge – Week 100 – Celebrations & Century

Thanks, Elsie for your wonderful challenges which gave me something to think and made me try other types of poetry. I will miss these challenges.

Mother’s century
Though we could not celebrate
As she passed away
Three years before completing
Seeing her pain and discomfort
I prayed for her departure
Whom we love can’t see in pain
( This is not a Tanka but had to add the last line)

Weekend Writing Prompt #55 – Twaddle

Weekend Writing Prompt #55 – Twaddle

The challenge is simple: each week you will be given an exact number of words you can use to write a poem or piece of prose.  You can use any format or style you like; go wherever your inspiration takes you.  The only rules are these:

  • your poem / prose must contain this week’s word.  The word does not have to count towards the exact word count total – it can be in the title, or the first letters of the lines of a poem can spell it out – you can be as creative as you want as long as it’s there somewhere.
  • the length of your poem / prose must match the number of words stated in this week’s challenge.  No more.  No less.

word count- 98

There is a lot of twaddling goes on in Hindi film industry about heroes,

‘Heroes don’t feel the pain, they don’t cry, they can’t shed tears.’

So when our superhero got his hand burnt by a cracker, he was all his heroic self-clenching his teeth, bearing the pain while getting operated.

Suddenly Doctor shouted, this is all baloney, ‘heroes don’t have pain, they don’t cry, you are not on the stage unless you show how much you are suffering I can’t give you anesthesia and treat you with the proper medicine.’

Then the hall reverberated with his howl.

Lesson

In order to make me, a softy, tough like himself, father used to make me run every morning.

One day he cajoled me to go up the hill, touch the shack; at least the nearer one.

He ignored my plea that I have pain in my knees.

There were no stairs, just a hard and slippery path.

I obeyed him, ran up; touched the shack and came back.

Lovingly he hugged me and said, ‘never let a little pain deter you from reaching for your goal.’

Since then little pain or injury never became obstacle in my journey.
