WISE  TRADITIONS

Radha is going to get married today but as per the village tradition; she has to marry a mango tree first.

She ties a red sacred thread to the tree trunk, embraces it, puts her cheek on it, and then proceeded to marry her real husband.

To fight the menace of  dowry system,  villagers of  Dharhara  has made it a tradition to plant ten mango trees with the birth of each girl child so by the time they grow up,  revenue from its fruits are enough for their dowry and wedding expenses and the mango tree acts as the real guardian of the girls.

#Weekly Tanka Prompt #Poetry Challenge – Week 87 – Spring & New Life

(Didn’t want to sound depressing but while searching Google for tree images, this tree captured my attention and words poured out.)

Arrival of spring
Hasn’t yet knocked on my door
Awaiting new life
Or will I remain like this
Barren throughout my life

Weekend Writing Prompt #44 – Fallen

Thanks, Sammicox, for the prompt.

Challenge

Prose Challenge – Write a three-sentence story: one for the beginning, one for the middle and one for the end, inspired by this weekend’s word prompt.

Poetry Challenge – Write a triolet inspired by the photo prompt.

Not fallen down in love or fallen out of love.

Sometimes felled due to nature’s wrath, or for the greed of the rich people or for the need of the poor.

I was not given a choice.

Ascend- The Daily Post

I waiting the whole day to capture the bat when flying, spreading its wings to full length like a vampire. It was hanging head down most of the time, then it started ascending from one branch to another to get figs with the help of its tiny feet attached to the wings, or so it seemed. It looks funny, going up the tree all the way in upside down position.
Then suddenly it ascended from my sight without giving me the chance to click properly.
I don’t like bats but I have never seen such a huge bat before.

View from my balcony. Marine Drive, Mumbai.

Cee’s Black & White Photo Challenge: Letters U or V

U for Uncanny- This knothole  for sure looks eerie.

V for Vanity- Who says only human beings have vanity? He walked away proudly after chasing us away from his mate, quacking ferociously.
