Five Sentence Fiction – Clutch

  First Encounter

My six years old brother clutched my hand tightly and pleaded ‘ don’t go to office princess’, he was fourteen years younger than I, born with Down ’s syndrome was, he has the wisdom of a three-year-old child, he always wanted me to stay at home.

He was very affectionate, loving and caring, always called me a princess, I do not know why and I always agreed to stay in spite of my boss getting angry with me, sometimes he even taunted me to leave the job and stay at home, I knew he was right but have no heart to say no to my brother.

I agreed, spent the day with him, took him for a walk in the evening, then told him a story at bedtime and he slept.

After few days he met with an accident, though it was just a mild push by his elder brother’s bicycle he became very uneasy, we rushed him to the hospital where doctors said it is a brain hemorrhage and he cannot survive and had only 48 hours to live.

Sitting by his bedside, I watched him slowly succumbing to his injury, second by second lights going out of his eyes, skin becoming dull every minute, next day he was gone, without giving us time to do something for him,  this was my first encounter with death, which is embedded in my mind till now.

PAYBACK

He is visiting this place exactly after one year.
Last year his wife went missing without any trace.

He admires the fog, warm hazy sunlight, and water.

‘Well,’ he thinks, ‘if a woman madly loves a man for his looks and is foolish enough to will him all her wealth, obviously deserved this…’

He hasn’t noticed the bubbles on the water forming a thick fog-like structure, stealthily coming to him. It embraces him tightly. He feels suffocated but powerless.

Before losing consciousness, he hears a whisper in his ears, ‘ you also deserve this, my love’.

Daily Prompt: Quirk of Habit

As the saying goes ‘ A chronic patient is a half doctor’ it fits me and this was my quirky habit to come up with a medicine every time someone complains of his/her problem or sickness to me. Headaches? Take this. Stomach upset?  Take this.   Apart from being a chronic patient, my maternal uncle and aunt both were Ayurvedic Doctors. I have studied a lot of books on Homeopathy so my mind was full of medicines all the time. Actually people tell you about their problems   just to share, not for advice or preaching, and here I was searching for  the root cause of their problem and what they should do or not do. I know it was annoying but I couldn’t stop myself.

Youngsters hated this habit but my mother ,my in-laws and few friends were pleased with me as they thought that I listen to their woes seriously and every time came up with a solution and that was my only solace.  since long I have corrected myself and never give advice until I’m asked for.

MOMENTS

Moments of love I cherish.

Moments of togetherness I relish.

Moments of gratitude I like to live again and again.

Moments of compassion I linger on.

Though moments of hatred  I try to forget,

moments of failure, I try to forget not,

to learn from them and move on.

Tree Climbing Poppy

Rochelle- To start off the year with a bit of whimsy, I’m posting my daughter-in-law’s picture of their tree-climbing dog. She assures me that this is untouched and not photo-shopped. Yep, that’s my granddaughter watching.

Punishment

Sunny was searching for his 24 hours companion buddy who was missing for a long time. he found it in the courtyard on the tree.

‘ What are you doing on the tree, buddy?’

‘ I’m waiting for mom to come and bring me down.’

‘ Come down by yourself.’

‘ I’m too small to come down on my own.’

‘How come you climbed by yourself?’

‘ I didn’t, mom put me here as the punishment.’

‘ That’s no way to punish a small dog, What did you do?’

‘ I  only licked the icing off her  New Year cake.’

B4Peace- A Party For Peace.

B4Peace- So this months challenge is to plan a party that will ripple peace to the world-Kozo

A Party For Peace.

I’m not a party person so the very idea of party  scares me, moreover, I never had a chance to organize a very big party as peace lovers are much more in numbers compared to those who are destroyer of peace. I’ve met thousands of people who wants peace in this world. All religions preach love, compassion and peace so how come there is so much unrest, terrorism, violence, wars in this world. How come handful of people in their greed of money and power can teach and spread so much hatred amongst people in the name of color, caste, creed and religion and if it can be taught so definitely love also can be taught.

I’ll request my wonderful friends Kozo, Archita and RaraSaur to help me organize the party and I’m sure these kind souls will help me.

All peace lovers are welcome to my place  with their great ideas of how to teach love and compassion and remove hatred from people’s mind. Since this is the party of peace lovers so there is going to be a lot of fun, music and food to suit everyone’s taste.  In the end we all will sing a song,

‘One Song’

of love, compassion , compatibility and peace.

 ‘One Song’- ‘Rumi’

Every war and every conflict between human beings
has happened because of some disagreement about names.

It is such an unnecessary foolishness,
because just beyond the arguing
there is a long table of companionship
set and waiting for us to sit down.

What is praised is one, so the praise is one too,
many jugs being poured into a huge basin.
All religions, all this singing, one song.
The differences are just illusion and vanity.
Sunlight looks a little different on this wall
than it does on that wall
and a lot different on this other one,
but it is still one light.

We have borrowed these clothes,
these time-and-space personalities,
from a light, and when we praise,
we are pouring them back in.

Dolphins

A group of tourists was enjoying the dolphins playing among themselves. When their guide told them that  Scientists think If humans ever hope to talk to animals, dolphins might represent our best bet. Some dolphins can understand up to 60 words and can make up to 2,000 sentences. They communicate between themselves exactly like us human beings. And who knows—maybe someday you’ll get a phone call from a dolphin.

One woman asked surprisingly ‘ What this fish will tell me on the phone ?’

Suddenly one dolphin came close to the poolside looked directly at the woman and retorted -‘ I’ll say, we are not fishes, you fool!’.

Five Sentence Fiction – Silver

silver-bells

SILVER

The theft case was bizarre, no broken locks or windows, no foot or fingerprints but all the silver items were stolen.

The house was locked for seven days as the owners went on vacation, however,  the robot, who was hired for cleaning and polishing silver items, was  deactivated and left inside resting in its marked place.

No one was to know that  a simple machine , not expected to  have  any emotion, would   get  bored with his assigned job of  daily  cleaning and polishing silver and   take  the opportunity of  staying alone to  get rid of boredom  .

At night it activated itself, opened  the backside window and threw all the silver items out of it, then closed the window, came to its resting place and deactivate itself .

It hated his tedious job and punished the owner for forcing it to do it daily.
