Writing 101, Day 2: Write a list

Posted on

Things I have learned

At old age one tends to become preachy not because you want to grab attention or to show how intelligent you are. It is just that life teaches you so much and so much you learned from your mistakes and hardship of life, you want to share it with everyone so that they do not repeat those  mistakes.

Now one thing I have learned that youngsters don’t like
preaching or advises. They like to learn from their mistakes. We elders should give them the chance and space to them to grow up.
We should not be over protective. Just show them what is good and bad and let them take their decisions. They will learn from their choices and decisions. This is the part of their growing up. It will make them tough.
I more thing I have learned that if you keep your mind open, every creature in this world has some lesson to teach you.
Age does not matter
Teacher may be young or old

Lessons are important

——————————————

Some lessons from life

Life is a journey

Full of challenges and fights

Key word is courage

——————————————-

Someone somewhere cares

The thought is so comforting

 Makes Life bearable

————————————

Life is a marathon

Rules are straight and clear

Take rest but don’t quit

WRITING 101, dAY 1: I Write because

Posted on
“Writing is my way of expressing – and thereby eliminating – all the various ways we can be wrong-headed.” – Zadie Smith
Why I write/ Why I joined Writing 101

I write because there is so much brewing inside my mind and I’m not able to bring it out.

I cannot express my views by talking so this is the only choice left for me.

Still I have to grasp the nuances of English writing. And what better place is there than this Writing 101 course?

Practice makes one better so I write to hone my writing skills.

Friends’ encouragement and their advices are definitely helping me to improve my writing and my vocabulary is expanding day by day.

I have found that once you write everything in writing, whether it’s about your problems, hurt. Anxiety, depression or about joyful moments of life, your mind becomes clear and light. You can read it with detachment and discover the cause behind everything and rectify. Well! It happens with me so I write everything whether I publish it or not. It works like a therapy for me.

I write to learn about many branches of literature and especially poetry.

I write because it gives me satisfaction and raises my self-esteem.

Writing is the best way to communicate, share views and interacts with the other bloggers and to get writing tips and skills as a bonus from them.

I write because I have a secret wish that may be someday I’ll learn enough to write a good poem or story. Who knows…may be…one day….

Writing 101- Last assignment Future

Cat sleeping

This time journey was wonderful as I completed all the assignment for Writing 101, almost on time. Once or twice I faltered but managed to complete them.

I made more friend and more followers. I also followed them and learned writing tips from them. What a wonderful lot. Always encouraging and taking time out of their busy schedule to give positive comments.

I love you friends.

Thanks to #Michelle, Cheri, Ben and Word Press team for giving us nice assignments.

I don’t know what to write about the future. I always live life day-to-day as at this age everyone does not knowing when the party will be over.

Uncertain is life

Future is unpredictable

We plan and God laughs

Life is like a tree.

Quality of fruits and flowers depends on how you have nurtured it.

I’ll be waiting for the future assignment as I can’t write without a push or a prompt and meanwhile publish my photography challenges and try to take part in short fiction stories.

When the past is past

For future you are tense

To live in the present

Makes a good sense

Writing 101, Day 18- A map as your muse

Map of Rjasthan. Rout map fro Jaipur to Bhangarh

A Passage through ruined Dwellings

Bhangarh is a deserted town with some 10000 dwellings established in 1613 by Madho Singh, younger brother of great Mughalgeneral, Man Singh of Amber. Bhangarh was abandoned soon after being built and supposedly after it was cursed by a magician.Bhangarh fort offers an intact view of the medieval past. Apparently, the Bhangarh town had been desolated by an old mughalinvasion, and is just reverting back to being habited again.

ASI Sign Board at Bhangarh

(Bhangarh ghosts: Myths, Curse, Devastation and horror stories:
Madho Singh built the town of Bhangarh with the approval of an ascetic Baba Balanath, who meditated there, though BabaBalanath predicted “look my dear chap! The moment the shadow of your palace touches me you are undone. The city shall be no more!” In ignorance Ajab Singh, the grandson of Madho Singh raised the palace to such a height that the shadow reached the forbidden place. Hence the devastation of entire town of Bhangarh happened.)

Ruins ( previousely published in Five Sentence Fiction)

Taj Mahal was built for love and Bhangarh was ruined for love.

Bhangarh, a place between Jaipur and Alwar in Rajasthan state of India, built in the 17th century by raja Madho Singh, younger brother of Man Singh, a general of Emperor Akbar’s army, is today famous for its ruins where nobody dares to go after dark, as it is said if one goes it will not return back.

As per the legend goes a tantric smitten by the beauty of  princess Ratnawati, tried to win her love ,added  a love potion in her bowl of oil but the angry princess who has seen him mixing something in the bowl threw the it at a wall which collapsed on the tantric and buried him.

Before dying he cursed the kingdom of Bhangarh that the city would be wiped overnight and would never be inhabited again, except for the temples.

Shortly after his death the city was sacked and destroyed in the Bhangarh-Ajabgarh wars.

Writing 101, Day 19: Link of Favorite Reads

Posted on

There are so many beautiful posts I read and as I always like to share good things with my friends I will share links so they can enjoy these posts.

Here are my all time favorite bloggers.

1- Rochelle Wisoff – Rochelle is master of emotional, touching, moving  fiction stories. She captures one’s heart with just 100 words. Her specialty is Historic fiction. Each story is a gem in itself.

2-  Mithai Mumblezz- 5000-years-ago-in-my-thoughts– A very well researched post about technological, philosophical and political richness of ancient times  by Mithai. In her own words   “Ramayana and Mahabharata are very complex tales…….but the sages wrote it in a simple way. In a much too simple way.
They told stories of science which common people interpreted as mythology.
In ancient times the mass population was kept under control in the name of superstition but most of them had a scientific or political reason behind them ……but with downfall of empires, the technology was lost but only the superstition remained.”

3- Momus News– This is a place for witty, satirical news and fiction stories. You would love each one of his stories.

4- A Journey Called Life– This is my friend Archits’s blog. In her own words ” I script details of the world around me; I write about unseen, unheard humane anecdotes – love, hurt, joy, silence, nostalgia- everything that gives voice to the mundane, meandering thoughts. I also click moments and call them photographs. In this blog, I combine words with photographs and share with you. Sometimes words win. Sometimes a photograph steals all the words with its silence.”

5- Ceenphotography.com/fun-foto-challenge– There are many photography blogs, I love all and nearly follow all. Cee is one of them. Her photo challenges are unique and fun to participate.

Writing 101, Day 17- Mine your own material.

When I had just joined Word Press, I wanted to do many things at a time. Writing short poems in Hindi and English, photography, short stories etc. I stumbled upon Haiku, Haynaku and Haibun  and tried my hand on that also. But I had no courage to publish them . This assignment has given me a nice chance mine my old material.

Seasons come and go
According to their cycle
Relish with fervor

Seasons come and go

According to their cycle

Our mood swings  with them

Time
never wasted
teaches you something

Something
to learn
from your failures

Failures
to gain
Success next time

 Haibun

“Not only the thirsty seek the water,
the water as well seeks the thirsty.” Rumi

I’m walking on the water, on the sea waves
they engulf me, embrace me, caress me
they are cooling, soothing, taking away all the worries from my mind.
I need the sea.
Its vastness, calmness, serenity empowers me.
 Does it need me too?
 How I’m to know?
They say,
the sea never takes anything from anyone,
 it returns everything.
Is it unconditional love from its side.
Please, make me feel wanted, take me.

bonded forever
arguments unresolved
are we soul mates

Writing 101,Day15: Take a Que- “Without music, life would be a mistake.”~Friedrich Nietzsche

I totally believe in what

Friedrich Nietzsche says-  ” “Without music, life would be a mistake.”

I can sum it up in following words~

Music is life, music is therapy,
Music can make every one happy,
Music can drive  woes away,
Music can drive illness away,
Music is life, music is therapy,
Music can make every one happy,
Music can drive  woes away,
Music can drive illness away,
sing,  sing, sing all the way
Sing in the day sing in the night
sing in the darkness sing in the light
sing when you are sad sing when you are happy
sing when your mood is snappy
singing just not drives ills away
singing drives the sorrows away
sing when alone, sing when together
sing when it is good or bad weather
sing in fright sing in delight,
sing songs together and never ever fight
sing,  sing , sing all the day
sing,  sing, sing all the way
Sing in the day sing in the night
sing in the darkness sing in the light
sing when you are sad sing when you are happy
sing when your mood is snappy
singing just not drives ills away
singing drives the sorrows away
sing when alone, sing when together
sing when it is good or bad weather
sing in fright sing in delight,
sing songs together and never ever fight

If you don’t believe me,
and  need some proof,
just ask my buddies,
dear meow and woof.

I equally believe in

“A room without books is like a body without a soul.”

— Marcus Tullius Cicero

but will write about it in another post, some other time.

Writing 101,Day 14- Recreat a single day

Posted on

Thirty years ago a Monday night changed my perspective about life completely.

I was with my two children, daughter 9 years old and son 7 years. My husband was out of station.

On Friday I had met with a friend who promised to visit my house on Monday.

On Saturday I got the news that she was burned to death while preparing dinner for her family.

It was the third case of death by burning in my life. My school friend then my sister-in-law and now this.

On Monday morning I woke up with a start. She was supposed to come today. The whole day I was thinking of her. I did all chores as if in a daze.

I was unable to sleep at night. Frankly, I was a bit scared. What if her soul comes?

I have always been scared of ghosts and spirits.

Children were fast asleep. Oblivious of my condition.I was perspiring profusely. I was thirsty but not able to get up and drink water.

I think when we reach the breaking point our conscious takeover and start reasoning.

I thought why I’m afraid of her. She was my friend. I loved her. She will do no harm to me.

I gathered courage, got up and went to the balcony. Sat there in a chair fully, prepared to welcome her soul.

Slowly I was becoming calm. I dozed off. The night passed quietly. Nothing happened.

The morning came with a new perspective. I was relieved of my fear of darkness and ghosts.

Do ghost, witches,  demons, angels and

Spirits really exist

Or, are they figment of imagination

Your faith is their strength

The reason for their existence

If you believe

They are everywhere

If you don’t

They are nowhere

Haunting Eyes

Eyes are the most prominent feature of anyone’s face we can never forget especially then when they are trying to convey something.

I can never forget those haunting eyes.

My mother’s eyes.

She had very expressive eyes. She never scolded us. Just a cold look would make us stop on our track. She controlled us with her eyes. Words were never necessary. She communicated very well with her eyes. I can never forget her eyes when her time to leave this world came. What goes inside the mind of the person who knows his/her time has come. What was there in her eyes apart from love, blessings? Fear of leaving loved ones? Fear of unknown? Something was there in her eyes which still haunt me.

I can never forget those haunting eyes.

One evening all alone, .I was roaming in my garden. After some time I went to a nearby pillar with a grape-vine surrounding it. I kept my hand on the pillar. After few seconds suddenly my sixth sense alerted me. I had an eerie feeling. There was stillness in the atmosphere, everything was very quiet.   Someone was watching me. If someone watches you intensely, you will find that your sixth sense alerts you. I was not able to breathe, my heart fluttering badly. I don’t believe in ghosts or demons but for a second I thought what if all that is true. I stood still for some time. After taking several deep breaths, I turned my head towards my hand; just few inches away two small frightened eyes were watching me. I discovered that it was a big fat green caterpillar. I felt ashamed of my behaving as childishly as it was more frightened than me. Slowly I moved away from it leaving it to enjoy its meal.

I can never forget those haunting eyes.

My dog was on his death-bed, hid head on my lap. His requesting, pleading, tear filled eyes asking me how I can let him go. I could not save him. But those eyes remained in my mind for ever.

The Proud Owner

The proud owner of the house forgot that he has to leave it one day.

He took great pride in maintaining it with utmost care and love,  surrounded it with a beautiful garden.

He devoted all his time in beautifying its exterior, neglecting its interior and other aspects of life. He neglected maintaining good relationship with relatives, friends and neighbours.

When the time to departure came he repents,

‘One must always make balance in maintaining the interior and exterior of the house, one must plant seeds of good karma so the fragrance of flowers of good karma will remain forever.’
